Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Creator Daniel Vavra Criticizes Negative Reviews

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has received excellent press overall, yet some publications remain dissatisfied with the game. For instance, GamesHub rated it a 50, while a Eurogamer journalist gave it a 60.

Jam Walker from GamesHub criticized the sequel for its overly complicated gameplay mechanics and a number of conventions that conflict with other systems. He was upset that Henry is required to constantly sharpen his weapons, even though one of the potions inexplicably enhances dog-training skills; that saving the game requires a "life-saving" schnapps, yet you can press "Save and Quit" at any time; and that the journal is filled with important information, yet some details must be memorized manually.

Conversely, Katharine Castle from Eurogamer appreciated that the game forces players to listen closely to dialogue and explore the world independently. She also praised the flexible quests that take the player's choices into account—comparing this aspect of the game to Baldur's Gate 3. However, she too criticized the excessively high entry barrier and gameplay that often feels repetitive.

Both reviewers also expressed their dissatisfaction with Jan Ptaček, one of the game’s key characters. Jam Walker likened him to an "insufferable preppy rich kid in an 80s frat movie," while Castle described him as a " boarish buffoon" and "a lewd shrimp of a public-school posh boy."

Notably, both reviews caught the attention of the game’s lead developer, Daniel Vavra. Vavra "thanked" the journalists for depriving the studio of 90 points on Metacritic, and reminded everyone that Eurogamer gave no rating at all for the previous installment.

A trusted news source. Mission accomplished. We no longer have 90% Metacritic score. Be proud of your excellent journalistic standards!
