Valve is Developing a Device with RDNA 4 Graphics — Steam Machine 2.0 May be on the Way.

Fresh reports suggest that Valve might be revisiting the idea of developing stationary gaming systems. At the core of this project is a hardware platform featuring AMD graphics based on the RDNA 4 architecture, which, according to insider sources, will serve as the foundation for future Steam-branded devices.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that Valve's engineers are actively optimizing drivers for AMD Radeon RX 9070 GPUs, which utilize RDNA 4. These graphics cards, unveiled at CES 2025 and expected to hit the market in March, are primarily designed for desktop systems. However, their potential could be unlocked in specialized gaming solutions. Experts speculate that Valve is considering two possible directions: launching a standalone console under the codename Fremont, integrating the RX 9070, or developing external graphics accelerators for the next-generation Steam Deck.
Valve’s interest in RDNA 4 is somewhat unexpected, given NVIDIA's dominance in the gaming sector on Steam. However, this move could be part of an ambitious plan to revive the Steam Machines—a line of compact SteamOS-powered PCs that struggled to compete with PlayStation and Xbox in the 2010s. The success of the Steam Deck, which combines portability with an open ecosystem, has likely inspired Valve to make another attempt at securing a foothold in the home console market.
One of the key questions is pricing. The inclusion of a high-end RX 9070 could make the system more expensive than traditional consoles. However, Valve is likely to focus on modularity and full compatibility with the Steam library. Additionally, integrating FSR 4 and next-generation technologies could attract users who value hardware scalability. While Valve has yet to make any official statements, the gaming community is already discussing the potential of a "Steam Machine 2.0" in an era of cross-platform gaming and cloud-based services.
