In a surprise move, Sony announced a massive price cut for its PlayStation VR2 headset. Starting March 2025, the recommended price in the US will drop by 27% — from $549 to $399.99. The price cut coincides with the two-year anniversary of PS VR2's release (launched in February 2023). The standard bundle now includes the headset, Sense controllers, headphones, and even a copy of Horizon Call of the Mountain at no extra cost.
The announcement comes alongside a surge of new content:
- Alien: Rogue Incursion and Metro Awakening VR are already out;
- On the way are Aces of Thunder flight sim, horror title The Midnight Walk, and Hitman World of Assassination;
- With the PS VR2 PC adapter, the headset is compatible with the Steam VR library, unlocking thousands of games.
The biggest surprise? A firmware update that brings hand tracking without controllers. This tech, already working in Waltz of the Wizard, uses the headset's cameras to accurately capture real-time gestures.
