The third episode of The Last of Us Season 2 premiered on April 28. Much of the story focuses on Ellie's grief after Joel’s death, sparking some division among viewers. The episode currently holds a 7.8 rating on IMDb.
Following the premiere, a behind-the-scenes discussion was posted on Max’s YouTube channel. According to Neil Druckmann, he was especially fond of this episode because it allowed for something the game never could: dedicating significant screen time to Ellie’s mourning.
In the game after Joel dies, because the mechanics of the game are very action-oriented, the mourning period is relatively short. Here, we can take almost an entire episode and really feel the loss of this character. There's this really beautiful scene where Tommy comes in and he has to clean up his brother's body.
