Nintendo Switch May Fall Short of Becoming the Best-Selling Console Ever
May 8, 2025, 01:46 PM

According to Nintendo’s latest financial report, the original Switch has sold 152.12 million units to date. The company aims to push that number to 156.62 million by the end of the current fiscal year.
If the projection holds, the Nintendo Switch would become the second best-selling console of all time. It’s currently in third place, behind the Nintendo DS (154.02 million) and the PlayStation 2 (160 million). While the gap with Sony’s console isn’t enormous, it remains uncertain how the launch of the Switch 2 will affect sales of the original model.
In the same report, Nintendo said it expects to sell 15 million Switch 2 units during its first fiscal year.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5.
