Paradox Announces Europa Universalis 5 — Trailer, Screenshots, and First Details

Paradox Interactive has unexpectedly announced Europa Universalis 5 — the first new entry in the grand strategy series in 12 years. While there's no release date yet, the studio has revealed a wealth of early details.
The campaign in Europa Universalis 5 will span five centuries of history, from the Middle Ages to the Age of Revolutions. The core systems — diplomacy, trade, warfare, and economy — have all been reworked from the ground up.
The trading system, in particular, is being described as the most complex in the series to date. Provinces can now produce dozens of different goods, which can be sold on the market. Running industries requires workers, specific resources, and financial investment.
There are also major changes to how populations are managed. In the fifth installment, players will be able to divide provinces by culture and religion, adding a new layer of complexity to population control.
Europa Universalis 5 is available to wishlist on Steam.
