As excitement around GTA 6 continues to build following the release of its second trailer, a former Rockstar Games artist has revealed that the game has been in active development for at least seven years.
David O’Reilly, who worked at Rockstar from 2011 to 2023, shared a behind-the-scenes video on YouTube discussing his time at the studio. His credits include GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, and GTA 6.
According to O’Reilly, he began working on GTA 6 in 2018, shortly after the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2. He noted that the game now looks far more polished compared to early builds he saw during his time at the studio.
GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on May 26, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The second trailer also featured a subtle callback to Red Dead Redemption 2.
