USB-Mice Set to Transform Console Gameplay on Nintendo Switch 2
Arkadiy Andrienko
The Nintendo Switch 2 will offer full compatibility with wired USB mice, a first for mainstream consoles. As showcased in this gameplay clip, the system seamlessly integrates mouse input for titles like Nobunaga’s Ambition, enabling PC-style cursor navigation — a rarity in console gaming.
Plug in a mouse, and the Switch 2 instantly recognizes the device, displaying an on-screen cursor. Transitioning between mouse and the updated Joy-Con 2 controllers happens automatically: pick up a gamepad, and the console switches input modes on the fly. While only wired mice are confirmed for now, the feature opens doors for precision-heavy genres like real-time strategy, shooters, and action games.
Analysts note that Nintendo is doubling down on the Switch 2’s hybrid identity, edging closer to multiplatform versatility. Unlike past iterations, the console now rivals PCs in control flexibility for certain titles, potentially streamlining ports of PC-exclusive games.
The Switch 2 launches globally on June 5, 2025, though Russian shipments face delays. Mouse support could prove pivotal in attracting gamers who’ve historically leaned toward consoles for their controller-centric design — a bold step in Nintendo’s quest to redefine the gaming landscape.
