On June 3rd, CD Projekt RED showcased an early prototype of The Witcher 4, built using Unreal Engine 5. YouTuber Cycu1 took it upon themselves to compare this glimpse of the future with The Witcher 3, which was developed on the REDengine. In their video, they break down everything from horse animations and vegetation to NPC detail and city density.

The gameplay footage debuted during the State of Unreal 2025 presentation. The demo highlighted a quest set in the kingdom of Kovir. The story sees Ciri heading to the port city of Waldrest to deal with a manticore terrorizing the locals.

In related news, CD Projekt RED recently revealed details about a hyper-realistic game mechanic that ultimately got cut from The Witcher 3. Not long before that, the devs shared some of the alternative title ideas they had for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
