Google Gemini Update Adds Timer-Based Tasks

Google’s Gemini AI assistant has rolled out a new function: it can now complete tasks at preset times. Use cases include automatically sending daily calendar summaries or generating content ideas for specific weekdays. Users specify what needs doing and when, and Gemini handles the rest. One-off actions are also supported, like pulling up a post-event summary the day after it wraps.
You’ll find these settings under "Scheduled Actions" in the Gemini app. Timer-based functionality marks another step toward Gemini evolving into a more proactive digital assistant. Early glimpses of the feature surfaced in test versions back in April—it’s now officially available to the public. OpenAI’s ChatGPT offers a similar approach, letting users schedule reminders and recurring tasks.
The update underscores Google’s push to develop tools that operate autonomously without constant human input. By handing Gemini subscribers a way to offload routine digital chores to AI, Google aims to streamline workflows. Whether this proves truly useful or becomes a setup headache remains to be seen. The feature is live now in the Gemini app—currently for paid subscribers only.
