Global OpenAI Outage: ChatGPT, Sora, and API Down for Users Worldwide

Users globally began flooding forums with reports of inaccessible OpenAI services early Tuesday. The outage primarily hit the popular ChatGPT assistant, alongside the Sora video tool and the OpenAI API interface. The first widespread complaints started around midnight Pacific Time (approximately 11:00 AM Moscow Time), affecting both free users and paying ChatGPT Plus subscribers.
Users experiencing the outage reported services either failing to load entirely or operating with severe glitches. Many encountered "rate limit" error messages, while others dealt with frozen interfaces, endless loading spinners, or dropped connections mid-conversation with the AI. In numerous cases, responses from ChatGPT were significantly delayed or simply never appeared.
According to OpenAI's status page, the disruption impacted over two dozen core ChatGPT components, along with a significant number of API and Sora platform elements. The company stated it has identified the root cause and is working on mitigation efforts, but has not yet provided a concrete restoration timeline. With services still unstable, experts are advising users to temporarily consider alternative platforms like Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity, which continue to operate normally.
