System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster, the updated edition of the cult classic immersive shooter, is now available on PC via Steam, GOG, and EGS.

Originally released on August 11, 1999, System Shock 2 takes place aboard the starship Von Braun following a catastrophic event. As one of the surviving crew members, the player must navigate the derelict ship, facing off against mutated hybrids, deadly machines, and the infamous rogue AI SHODAN from the original System Shock.

Developed by Nightdive Studios, the remaster significantly improves visuals and adds support for ultrawide displays, up to 144 FPS video, mod integration, and cross-platform multiplayer.

While the remaster hasn’t yet received a Steam user score, reviews are already online. The game currently holds an 81 on Metacritic and an 85 on OpenCritic.

The console version is expected in the first half of July. The developers delayed the release at the last minute due to unspecified issues.
