69-Year-Old Dad Beats Dark Souls After Son's Challenge — It Was His First Game Ever

YouTuber Babe1Babe2, known for his FromSoftware-focused channel, recently shared a heartwarming story of how his 69-year-old father completed Dark Souls — his first-ever video game.
After previously convincing his wife to play through the original Dark Souls, the content creator turned to his father, who had never touched a video game in his life. The goal wasn’t to turn his dad’s suffering into content, but rather to bridge a generational gap. Growing up, Babe1Babe2 was only allowed to play for one hour a day. Now, 20 years later, he wanted to show his father that games are more than just a waste of time — and his dad agreed, hoping to better understand his son.
The journey took nine months. At first, the father struggled with basic controls, but over time he learned how to manage health and stamina, block attacks, and take down bosses. He also found joy in interacting with viewers — at its peak, around 1,400 people were watching him play live.
Beating Dark Souls turned out to be a transformative experience. Not only did it shift his perception of video games, it also brought him closer to his son — and gave him a deep sense of accomplishment:
“In my career, I would feel the same sort of sense of accomplishment when one of the customers I was working with went live on their accounting system. You realize that you really did something.”
