According to a new report from PC Gamer, major layoffs are reportedly hitting Virtuos — the studio behind the upcoming Oblivion Remastered. The outlet cites a post by the co-founder of French gaming site Origami.
Virtuos is a large outsourcing studio founded in 2004 by former Ubisoft executive Gilles Langourieux. The company has worked on numerous high-profile projects, including Cyberpunk 2077. Its most recent work includes The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, and it’s also handling the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, set to launch in August.
Around 300 jobs are at risk — roughly 7% of the company's total workforce. The bulk of the layoffs (about 200 employees) will reportedly affect Virtuos’ offices in China, with additional cuts expected in other regions, including its French division.
The report notes that Virtuos invested heavily in Oblivion Remastered, but the contract didn’t include royalty payments based on the game’s success. In February, as development was wrapping up, management froze salary increases and reduced bonuses.
