Chinese Modder Builds Portable 4K Gaming Rig Packing an RTX 4090
Arkadiy Andrienko
Chinese modder "Qingchen DIY" has unveiled a one-of-a-kind portable gaming system capable of running modern AAA titles at 4K. Built around a Tongfang OEM chassis, the device harnesses flagship mobile silicon from Intel and NVIDIA. This portable powerhouse packs the following specs:
- CPU: Intel Core i9-14900HX (24 cores/32 threads)
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU
- RAM: 64GB DDR5-5600
- Storage: 2TB SSD
- Display: 12.5-inch 4K screen
The real kicker? Its ability to deliver stable, ultra-high-resolution gameplay on the go. Demos showed the handheld smoothly running demanding titles like God of War, Horizon Forbidden West, and Cyberpunk 2077 at high settings in 4K – a massive leap over commercial handheld PCs, which typically top out at 1080p.
Despite the extreme hardware, the modder managed to keep thermals in check. Even during extended gaming sessions, the GPU temperature hovered around a respectable 72°C (162°F). The ergonomic chassis mimics commercial handheld consoles, featuring integrated analog sticks, buttons, and triggers for comfortable control.
All that power comes at a cost: peak power draw hits 175W. The built-in 50Wh battery only lasts about 15 minutes under load, so this beast is really meant for wall power. Exact dimensions and weight weren’t shared, but it’s clearly a hefty, large-format portable – definitely not built for battery life or your back pocket.
