Lenovo Claims Record PC Market Share, Fueled by AI-Powered Devices

The personal computer market is rebounding, and hardware-accelerated AI has emerged as a key growth driver. Lenovo moved quickly to seize this opportunity, prioritizing devices with integrated AI features. The first quarter of its 2025/2026 fiscal year delivered revenue of $18.8 billion – a 22% jump year-over-year.

AI PCs played a major role in this profit surge. Over 30% of the PCs Lenovo shipped during the quarter fell into its "AI PC" category. For Lenovo, this means laptops and desktops equipped with neuroprocessing units (NPUs). These chips handle AI algorithm processing, offloading the CPU and enabling efficient on-device tasks like real-time speech transcription, content generation, or cyber threat analysis without constant cloud connectivity. According to analysts, Lenovo now commands 31% of the global Windows PC market featuring these neural accelerators.

Lenovo anticipates that users will increasingly leverage local AI capabilities on their devices, driven by the current AI boom. This outlook is supported by the performance of its Intelligent Devices Group (IDG), which saw revenue climb 18% to $13.5 billion. Crucially, sales of traditional PCs and smart devices within IDG grew 19% – the fastest pace in 15 quarters. This growth propelled Lenovo to capture nearly a quarter (24.6%) of the entire PC market.

Despite this positive momentum, the global PC market has not yet returned to pre-pandemic shipment volumes. Experts note that Lenovo outpaced competitors like HP and Dell due to its flexible supply chains, manufacturing scale, and sharp focus on AI technology. However, risks remain. Whether AI features will drive long-term device upgrades or prove to be a short-term trend remains to be seen.
