Chinese manufacturer GPD has officially confirmed the launch date for its most powerful portable gaming system to date. The Win 5 model, first unveiled at Chinajoy, will hit the market on October 17, 2025. The company is positioning the device as the most powerful handheld gaming console available.
The console's impressive gaming chops are powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor. This chip packs integrated Radeon 8060S graphics, which, according to numerous tech reviews, delivers performance close to that of a mobile RTX 4070 GPU. This level of performance is thanks to its 40 compute units and the modern RDNA 3.5 architecture.
The device will be available in configurations with a highly unusual amount of RAM. Users will be able to choose a version with 32GB, 64GB, or even 128GB of LPDDR5X memory. For storage, it uses M.2 SSDs with capacities of up to 4TB, and it also supports new Mini SSD cards from Biwin.
The console features a seven-inch 120Hz Full HD display, with control handled by capacitive joysticks and Hall effect triggers, promising high precision and durability.
One of the most talked-about details is its power solution. Unlike most portable devices, the Win 5’s body has no internal battery. For mobile use, you must use an included 80Wh external power bank. The device can also be powered directly from a wall outlet using a powerful 180W adapter. According to insiders, this design allowed GPD to implement an efficient dual-fan cooling system capable of dissipating up to 120W of heat.
Official pricing has yet to be announced. However, according to independent reviewer NITRX, the base model with 32GB of RAM could start at around $1,400. The 64GB model is estimated to cost approximately $1,670, though there's no word yet on the potential price for the 128GB version.
The GPD Win 5 handheld is primarily aimed at demanding gamers who need maximum performance in a compact format, even if it comes with the compromise of an external power source.
