Russian studio Fire & Frost has released an overview trailer for Of Ash and Steel, a medieval role-playing game inspired by Gothic. Here’s what we learned from the new footage:
- The protagonist is Tristan, an ordinary cartographer, who "still has much to learn." The story unfolds on an island, and players will be able to influence its fate;
- Combat features multiple fighting stances, along with unique skills and “long-lost powers”;
- The world is divided between two major factions — the Order of Seven and the Free Hunters. Players can also join one of three rival guilds;
- Weapon crafting comes with its own editor, letting players choose the shape of the blade, guard, and other details;
- Other activities include hunting, fishing, stealing, and treasure hunting. Players can even purchase their own home.
Of Ash and Steel doesn’t have a release date yet, but Steam users can apply for closed testing via the game’s official page.
As for Gothic (or rather its remake by Alkimia Interactive), the game is slated for early 2026. The developers recently unveiled a new trailer featuring Xardas.
