Konami Reports First-Day Sales for Metal Gear Solid Delta

Konami has shared the launch numbers for Metal Gear Solid Delta, which released on August 28. The remake sold 1 million copies on its first day.
How sales are holding up a week later remains unclear. For comparison, Konami’s other recent remake — Silent Hill 2 — took three days to reach the same milestone. Back in January, the company revealed that its sales had already surpassed 2 million.
The remake was developed by Virtuos, the studio behind the Oblivion remaster. Metal Gear Solid Delta follows operative Naked Snake as he infiltrates the Russian jungle to extract a scientist working on a new nuclear weapon.
Prior to launch, the game scored an 85 on Metacritic, while early Steam reviews were mixed. Its current rating on Valve’s platform sits at 83%. You can read more about the game in our review here.
With Delta off to a strong start, Konami will likely greenlight remakes of other entries in the franchise, such as the original Metal Gear Solid or its sequel. The company has also hinted at wanting to develop a brand-new installment.
Meanwhile, Metal Gear Solid 5 — the most recent entry in the series — just turned 10. We’ve covered its troubled development in a feature.
Interestingly, series creator Hideo Kojima is already hard at work on Physint, a new project described as a direct rival to Metal Gear Solid. More details are expected in the coming years, with a release planned for the early 2030s.
