Fresh screenshots of the open-world, single-player shooter CHERNOBYL have emerged online, showcasing the game's haunting rendition of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
Along with the visual treat, new plot details have also been revealed. According to the game's lore, the Zone's anomalies are the result of secret scientific experiments conducted by Symbios, an international pharmaceutical corporation. When these experiments came to light, governments around the world moved to shut down Symbios and enclose the Zone with a massive reinforced concrete wall. The perimeter is now controlled by Rosvet, a private military organization. Despite these precautions, stalkers continue to infiltrate the Zone via clandestine routes.
Players will step into the boots of a former soldier who ventures into the Zone in search of an artifact that can save his daughter. Guided by a former Symbios scientist, the protagonist seeks to infiltrate Amega-3, a strategic facility, to uncover information about Project Rebirth, a clandestine attempt to cure humans of any disease.
The gameplay revolves around detailed exploration of the Exclusion Zone, uncovering the mysteries surrounding Symbios' activities, and fighting for survival in the face of constant danger. Every step the protagonist takes can have irreversible consequences, making his mission extremely challenging and tense.
CHERNOBYL is being developed by V.M.A. Games using Unreal Engine 5. No release date has been announced.
