It’s been a long time since we’ve heard good news about the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake. First announced at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase, the project quickly ran into trouble: just a year later, reports suggested executives were unhappy with its quality. Development was eventually handed over to Saber Interactive.

Now, a piece of concept art from the canceled Aspyr version has surfaced online. The illustration shows Kashyyyk, the Wookiee homeworld visited by the player as part of the main storyline. The artwork was uploaded to the portfolio of an artist who worked at Aspyr until 2021.

The remake still has no release date. Last spring, Saber CEO Matthew Karch confirmed that the project remains in development but declined to share further details.

The original Knights of the Old Republic was released by BioWare in 2003. Set 4,000 years before Anakin Skywalker’s story, it follows an amnesiac hero who must face the powerful Sith Lord Darth Malak.

KOTOR quickly achieved cult status and often appears on lists of the greatest games ever made. In 2021, filmmaker James Gunn even called it his favorite Star Wars story of all time.

Looking ahead, Star Wars fans can expect Jedi 3 and the tactical strategy game Star Wars Zero Company. You can watch the trailer for the latter here.
