Indie developer Chronospace has dropped the first gameplay trailer for their upcoming title, War Mechanic, a first-person shooter boasting an open world, vehicle-based gameplay, and a distinct retro-futuristic aesthetic.
In War Mechanic, players will step into the boots of Jack Wallace, a mercenary tasked with restoring a dilapidated military base on the isolated island of Nordhook. Explore an open world featuring sandy beaches, abandoned facilities, secret bunkers, and forgotten mines. Players will scavenge resources, craft weapons and tools, repair equipment, battle the rogue robots that have overrun the island, complete contracts, and upgrade their base of operations.
"We've blended iconic 1950s technology with cutting-edge automation and robotics to create a compelling retro-futuristic atmosphere," says Chronospace. "Each model, vehicle, and robot features a unique art style, designed specifically for fans of retrofuturism."
War Mechanic is being built using Unreal Engine 5, leveraging the power of Lumen. While there's no release date currently set, you can already wishlist the game on Steam and check out more details and screenshots on the project page.
War Mechanic is Chronospace's third project. Back in 2022, the studio released the educational game Cyphers Game, which garnered an 80% rating on Steam. In 2024, Chronospace followed up with another educational title, Aviators, which currently holds a 75% rating on Valve's platform.
