Production on the upcoming Highlander reboot has hit an unexpected setback. According to Deadline, lead actor Henry Cavill sustained an injury during pre-production.
As a result, filming has been pushed back — likely until early 2026. Cavill himself has not yet commented on the situation.
The new Highlander will reboot the hit ’90s franchise about immortal warriors battling each other to gain power. The series has spanned five films, 14 novels, and numerous comics. Its most iconic entry remains the 1986 action movie starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery.
The reboot’s cast features several big names. Cavill will play Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod, Russell Crowe will portray his mentor Ramirez, and Dave Bautista will take on the role of the barbarian Kurgan. Djimon Hounsou and Karen Gillan are also set to appear.
The film will be directed by Chad Stahelski, best known for the John Wick franchise, with a script by Michael Finch (John Wick: Chapter 4, Hitman, Predators). Reports suggest the budget could reach around $100 million.
Stahelski is also attached to direct a Ghost of Tsushima adaptation. In 2023, he called it one of his most passionate projects.
