Sucker Punch Productions is keeping the hype train rolling for Ghost of Yotei, which launches in just a couple of weeks. The studio has released a new trailer titled “A Thousand Blades,” spotlighting the brutal artistry of Japanese sword combat.
As previously revealed, the protagonist will wield four melee weapons: a traditional katana, the long odachi blade, a yari spear, and the kusarigama — a chained sickle that recently appeared in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The arsenal also includes a bow and a firearm.
Ghost of Yotei takes place centuries after the story of Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima. The sequel follows a woman named Atsu, who sets out on a bloody path of revenge after a mysterious gang murders her family. Her journey leads her to Mount Yotei — a lawless haven for bandits, untouched by Japan’s authorities.
The game launches on October 2, with full reviews going live on September 25. You can find all the key details in our breakdown here.
It’s still too early to judge the quality of Ghost of Yotei, but this first full gameplay reveal is quite impressive. It’s not just the features mentioned above — the overall tone of the game also stands out. It feels like a samurai action film directed by Quentin Tarantino: you can sense his influence in the narrative, visual aesthetics, and soundtrack, which mixes traditional Japanese melodies with western music.
