IGN names the top 15 video game remakes — Silent Hill 2 takes 4th place

IGN has published its ranking of the best video game remakes of all time. The list highlights 15 titles, including some of the most recent releases like Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

Unsurprisingly, the top spot went to Resident Evil 2. According to the outlet, Capcom managed to take the strongest aspects of the original and turn them into a modern horror masterpiece. The remake was praised for reimagining certain moments in ways that were both terrifying and deeply nostalgic.

Second place went to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second chapter of Square Enix’s ambitious project. The game stood out for its expansive, semi-open-world zones designed to encourage exploration.

Notably, third place went to the 2002 remake of the original Resident Evil. Despite its age, the reimagining of Capcom’s classic horror is still considered a benchmark that holds up to modern standards.

Rounding out the top five were Silent Hill 2 and Persona 3 Reload, followed by Resident Evil 4. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater came in at number 12.

And the list will only grow in the coming years. Remakes currently in development include Gothic, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Max Payne, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, The Witcher, Splinter Cell, and Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.
