Fan site Redanian Intelligence, which regularly covers projects set in The Witcher universe, has revealed the estimated budget for Netflix’s witcher shows. According to anonymous sources, the combined cost of the series — not including the anime Nightmare of the Wolf and Sirens of the Deep — has already exceeded $700 million.
The fourth season of The Witcher had the highest budget to date, coming in at $221 million, or around $27 million per episode.
For comparison: season three cost $175 million ($21.8 million per episode), season two was $176.3 million ($22 million per episode), and season one came in at $92.1 million ($11.5 million per episode).
As for the spin-offs, the ill-fated Blood Origin series cost $51.5 million, with $12.8 million spent per episode. An upcoming special focused on the “Rats” gang, which was originally planned as a full series, has a budget of $21 million — not including post-production.
Season four of The Witcher, starring Liam Hemsworth in the lead role, premieres on October 30. Meanwhile, Andrzej Sapkowski’s new novel The Crossroad of Crows is set to launch worldwide next week.
