Ghost of Yotei, the new PlayStation exclusive set in the world of Ghost of Tsushima, launches on October 2. In a recent interview with Game File, Sucker Punch co-founder Brian Fleming discussed the budget of the highly anticipated sequel. As it turns out, it’s surprisingly modest compared to other major releases.

According to Fleming, Ghost of Yotei cost roughly the same to make as Ghost of Tsushima. The new game was developed by almost the same team, but production took less time.

When we look at the financials and the costs, the man years, the amount of months that the team – times the size of the team – worked on it, [it's] very, very similar, actually.

The first Ghost of Tsushima reportedly cost just $60 million to make, and the fact that the sequel carries a comparable price tag is remarkable. By comparison, Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 cost $90 million and about $300 million respectively; Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West came in at $47 million and $212 million; and God of War Ragnarok was nearly twice as expensive to produce as the original reboot.

Ghost of Yotei will be released exclusively on PlayStation 5. Recently, Sucker Punch shared short videos highlighting the game’s combat system and open world.
