Liam Hemsworth officially steps into the role of Geralt of Rivia in season 4 of The Witcher. Ahead of the premiere, the actor gave an in-depth interview to Entertainment Weekly, where he shared his thoughts on joining the series and Henry Cavill’s departure.

Cavill, who played Geralt through the first three seasons, announced he was leaving back in 2022. Showrunner Lauren Hissrich explained that it was a mutual decision: “He had plans for other roles that he really wanted to commit himself to. And for us, you don't want to hold someone and force them to be doing something that they don't want to do.”

Hemsworth admitted the transition came with pressure from fans in the early months. “There was quite a bit of noise and I had to put that aside,” he said. “I just don't want any of that to affect my way of telling the story that I'm trying to tell. I jumped off social media and the internet most of last year.”

To prepare, Hemsworth reread Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels and rewatched the first three Netflix seasons. He had also played The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt several times in the past, calling it “one of the best video games of all time.”

While the actor says he’s a huge fan of Cavill, he also stressed the importance of finding his own take on the character. What draws him most to the White Wolf is Geralt’s human side — his care and protection for those close to him.

We were brought up with this real sense of taking care of people around you. There's elements of that I felt connected to.
— Liam Hemsworth

Season 4 of The Witcher premieres October 30 on Netflix. A fifth and final season is already in production and is expected to debut in 2026.
