PAC-MAN WORLD 2 Re-PAC Released on PC and Consoles
Vladislav Nikolaev
PAC-MAN WORLD 2 Re-PAC, the remaster of the 2002 3D platformer Pac-Man World 2, has launched on PC and consoles. The game is available on PC, Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
In PAC-MAN WORLD 2 Re-PAC, players take on the role of Pac-Man, who embarks on a journey through Pac-Land to defeat the all-powerful Ghost King and recover the stolen Golden Fruit. The remaster features updated graphics, new levels, voice acting, a two-player mode, collectibles, as well as various improvements and bug fixes. Critics and players have responded positively, with the game holding an 87% rating on Steam and a 79/100 score on OpenCritic.
I honestly wanted to give a neutral rating. As a player familiar with all the original games and the previous remake, I think this remake is well done in many ways, even better than the first game’s remake. However, like with the first remake, it lacks the subtle charm that made these games memorable. Instead, there are changes that feel completely unnecessary — for example, the bounce now feels much slower and heavier than in the original. The voice acting also struck me as unbearable, so I turned it off immediately. Like with the first remake, I still think it’s better to play the original rather than this remake — which I can’t say about many other remakes, like the Spyro or Crash series, which stay very true to the source material. Also, the game has serious bugs: mine crashed during the fight with the second boss.
The atmosphere and music feel a bit soulless compared to the original, and the controls are a little off, but this platformer remake adds interesting new mechanics and level changes, so it’s not exactly the same game. The difficulty is preserved. Highly recommend picking it up on sale!
There’s also a Sonic the Hedgehog Collaboration Set DLC available, which includes two costumes and three levels (only one is currently accessible). The DLC is part of the game’s Deluxe Edition.
