20th Century has officially announced a new full-length animated feature, The Simpsons Movie 2. The debut poster for the film features Homer's hand holding a donut emblazoned with the number "2."
Plot details for the new feature film are currently being kept under wraps. All that's known so far is that the movie is set to premiere on July 23, 2027 – exactly two decades after the release of the first installment.
The plot of the original animated film, released in 2007, saw Homer Simpson attempting to save Springfield after the Environmental Protection Agency placed the entire town under a massive glass dome. The film was directed by David Silverman, a veteran who also worked on the animated series. It went on to gross $536 million worldwide.
In related animated news, Disney recently dropped the final trailer for Zootopia 2, which continues the story of police officers Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. And earlier this summer, Paramount Pictures unveiled the first trailer for SpongeBob: In Search of SquarePants.
