Publisher New Blood Interactive and studio Hyperstrange have announced that their first-person horror shooter Blood West will be launching on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The console versions are set to release on October 16.
Blood West originally launched in Early Access on February 10, 2022, and remained there until its full release on December 5, 2023. The game follows an undead gunslinger who journeys through cursed deserts to lift a dark curse and free his soul. The project consists of three chapters, offering around 20 hours of gameplay. Blood West was developed by Hyperstrange, known for their work on POSTAL: Brain Damaged. The developers drew inspiration from titles like Thief, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and Hunt: Showdown when creating the shooter.
In late 2024, Blood West received the paid DLC Dead Man's Promise, which introduced a new chapter and a different protagonist, the shaman Twain. A second DLC, titled Endless West, is currently in development and is stated by the developers to be the final expansion.
Blood West boasts a "Very Positive" 90% rating on Steam, an 80/100 on Metacritic, and an 82/100 on OpenCritic. Critics and players alike have praised the game for its unique blend of Wild West and horror atmosphere, charismatic characters, extensive weapon selection, intriguing monster design, and solid optimization.
