Budget Gaming Smartphone with 144Hz Display and Touch Triggers Announced

The new Infinix GT 30 gaming smartphone has been announced, grabbing attention with a design and technical features typically found on more expensive devices, now making their way into a more budget-friendly option.

A key highlight is the display—a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with a super-smooth 144Hz refresh rate, promising seamless visuals in fast-paced shooters and racing games. The high brightness level also ensures you can see details in your virtual world even in direct sunlight, though using this setting will drain the battery faster.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 chipset. Rather than chasing peak performance, the manufacturer focused on the efficiency of this 4nm processor. To prevent overheating during long gaming sessions, engineers equipped the phone with a liquid cooling system. The 5,500 mAh battery capacity isn't the largest, but with support for 45W fast charging, the device can be powered up very quickly.

An interesting addition is the set of touch-sensitive buttons on the side frame. These are designed to work like the shoulder triggers on a traditional gamepad, which could give players an edge—for instance, by allowing them to aim and shoot simultaneously without touching the screen. The smartphone also includes AI-powered software assistants capable of tasks like recognizing and translating text from images.

At launch, the Infinix GT 30 is priced at around $260, positioning it as a budget contender in the gaming phone segment. The company hasn't yet announced global sales plans, and the device is currently only available in select Asian markets. However, based on Infinix's usual approach, a global release is expected within the next couple of months.
