Warner Bros. Discovery has officially confirmed it is considering a potential sale after receiving unsolicited interest from several parties, including Paramount Skydance. While the company continues to prepare for its planned split into two separate media businesses — Warner Bros. and Discovery Global — by mid-2026, it is now also exploring options for a full sale or individual deals for its various divisions.

CEO David Zaslav emphasized that the company’s strategic goal is to maximize shareholder value, highlighting Warner Bros. and HBO Max’s recent market successes.

We continue to make important strides to position our business to succeed in today's evolving media landscape by advancing our strategic initiatives, returning our studios to industry leadership, and scaling HBO Max globally. We took the bold step of preparing to separate the Company into two distinct, leading media companies, Warner Bros. and Discovery Global, because we strongly believed this was the best path forward.

It's no surprise that the significant value of our portfolio is receiving increased recognition by others in the market. After receiving interest from multiple parties, we have initiated a comprehensive review of strategic alternatives to identify the best path forward to unlock the full value of our assets.
— David Zaslav

Warner Bros. Discovery owns major brands and franchises, including DC, HBO, CNN, Harry Potter, and more. DC has several new films and series in the pipeline, such as:

  • Peacemaker Season 2 and a spin-off featuring Amanda Waller;
  • Supergirl film (June 2026);
  • Clayface film (September 2026);
  • Superman: The Man of Tomorrow film (July 2027).

Beyond movies, Warner Bros. also owns HBO Max, home to hit series like The Last of Us, The White Lotus, Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and others, as well as major game studios such as Rocksteady, NetherRealm, TT Games, and Avalanche Software.

Warner Bros. has not set a timeline for completing its review of strategic alternatives, and there is no guarantee this process will result in a sale. Alongside the announcement, Warner Bros. also raised prices for all HBO Max subscriptions.

Incidentally, in September it was reported that Warner Bros. became the first studio to earn $4 billion at the box office in 2025. The company is also working on a Harry Potter TV series. Recently, the internet got a first look at the new Albus Dumbledore.
