After 11 Years in Development, Tavern Keeper Finally Launches on Steam — and It’s Already Sitting at 97% Positive Reviews

After more than a decade in the making, the long-awaited fantasy tavern simulator Tavern Keeper has finally entered Early Access on Steam. The project took 11 years to complete — something the developers admit they’re not exactly proud of — but the result is already winning over players.
In Tavern Keeper, you play as the owner of a medieval inn that you can decorate and manage however you like. The game features “dozens” of interlocking systems designed to keep things interesting — from a cracked lantern that can spark a massive fire to patrons suddenly struck by sleep sickness.
The story campaign includes three major regions: gloomy swamps, halfling homelands, and arid deserts. “Meet immortal elementals, outwit halfling philosophers and aid a crazed orc inventor,” reads the game’s description.
Before the full release, the developers plan to roll out several updates. The first will introduce item painting, while the next will expand the world with an underground location.
At the time of writing, the game holds a 97% positive rating on Steam, with players praising its laid-back atmosphere and witty humor.
Tavern Keeper is currently available with a launch discount for $23.38.
