Syberia Remaster Debuts to 60% Steam Rating, Players Unimpressed

November 6 saw the release of Syberia — Remastered on PC and consoles, an updated version of the beloved 2002 cult classic adventure game. Players, however, have given the project a lukewarm reception, currently holding a 60% rating on Steam.
Many players are complaining in their reviews that the developers opted not to create new cutscenes for the remaster. They've also heavily criticized the clunky character animations and the game's overall poor technical state.
My verdict: they genuinely worked on the remaster – the visuals are beautiful. However, they severely cut corners with optimization and testing. Beneath the gorgeous backgrounds and improved models lie a host of technical issues, visual inconsistencies, and sloppy solutions. I wouldn't recommend buying it until they fix the optimization and iron out the bugs.
I adored the first two parts. I think instead of parts 3 and 4, they should have released proper remasters of those, and not... this. Overall, I don't recommend this remaster; you're better off playing the original. And it's not because 'things were better back then,' but because this is an unfinished, lazy effort.
Honestly, this remaster doesn't feel like a product made by professionals for money. It all looks like an exercise put together in Unity/Unreal by fans who aren't the most experienced in game development. You know, when some cutscenes are just pulled from YouTube to save resources, and some assets are found on free model websites.
Honestly, I don't even know if it's worth playing. The remaster plays exactly like the original but feels a bit shoddier in execution and completely lacks that special atmosphere of a good old adventure game.
Don't buy this. Spend your time on something else, get some sleep instead. Well, if you ×can't× sleep, then sure, grab it, it'll help. From my end – refund.
The remaster does boast new graphics, improved controls, a reworked interface, and updated puzzles. The game is available on PC (via Steam and GOG), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
It's worth noting that earlier, reviews also emerged for the grand strategy game Europa Universalis 5.
