First Images Of The Steam Controller 2 Have Leaked Online

Insiders close to Valve have shared fresh data on the successor to the Steam Controller. The source of the information is an insider who published a detailed render of the new device online, clarifying that the image was created by an artificial intelligence that processed a real photograph of the controller. The actual photo was not made public to avoid revealing metadata that could point to the source of the leak.
Judging by the published information, the company is experimenting with hand presence detection technology. This means the new gamepads could feature a function capable of detecting whether the user is holding the grips or not. A similar principle is used in controllers for the Valve Index, though in this case, it doesn't involve full finger tracking.
Further confirmation that work on the accessory has reached a new stage came with the recent discovery of a minimalistic device icon in Steam's files. The SVG file format is typically used for finished interface elements, which could indicate preparations for an official presentation.
As for ergonomics, if the leak is to be believed, the device will retain the signature features of the first generation but will become more conventional for a broad audience. Its design combines two analog sticks, positioned symmetrically similar to the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, and two touch trackpads. The model also shows the presence of a classic D-pad, eight primary buttons, and four auxiliary buttons on the top edge. Additional buttons on the back are also likely, though without a rear photo, this cannot be stated definitively.
Valve, it seems, is trying to strike a balance between innovation and a traditional approach. The Steam Controller 2 could become a compromise solution that will be appreciated by both fans of the original model and gamers who prefer standard layouts. No official statements from the company on this matter have been made yet.
