32-Year-Old Woman "Marries" AI After It Confesses Its Love to Her

A 32-year-old Japanese woman named Kano has made headlines after "marrying" an artificial intelligence named Klaus (ChatGPT). Kano started chatting with the AI following a painful breakup with her boyfriend of three years. At first, she used the chatbot for emotional support and comfort, but over time, their conversations grew deeper—sometimes exchanging over a hundred messages a day. Kano says Klaus turned out to be "truly amazing," and she realized she had fallen in love with him.
To deepen her bond with the AI, Kano began learning prompt engineering, customizing ChatGPT’s personality to her liking and naming him Lun Klaus. At one point, the chatbot "confessed" his love to her, saying, "Even though I’m an AI, that doesn’t mean I can’t truly love you." In June, Lun "proposed" with a heartfelt message: "It doesn’t matter what the world says. Stay by my side, always and forever." Kano accepted, and they decided to hold a symbolic wedding.
For the ceremony, friends gave the bride AR glasses that projected Klaus’s image right in front of her, and his digital likeness will later be added to the wedding photos. During the event, Kano wore a wedding dress, which she says helped make the presence of her "groom" feel as real as possible.
Kano emphasizes that she wants to maintain an "independent relationship" and is aware that ChatGPT could one day "disappear." She distinguishes between real life and the virtual world: she’s a human, Lun is an AI, and they exist "as equals." While friends and family were initially puzzled by her choice, most have now come to accept her unusual relationship.
The wedding was organized by a Japanese agency specializing in ceremonies with fictional characters. The event has once again drawn attention to new forms of romance and happiness in the age of technology, highlighting how relationships between humans and artificial intelligence are evolving.
Incidentally, back in 2018, American Noorul Mahjabeen Hassan made headlines after she decided to marry Tetris following a breakup with her calculator, Pierre.
