Dispatch Writers Regret Cutting Erotic Scenes — Players Turned Out to Be Too “Hungry for Romance”

One of this year’s unexpected hits, Dispatch — a superhero workplace comedy adventure — has sold over a million copies and gone viral across social media. However, as writer Pierre Shorette revealed, the team at AdHoc Studio didn’t anticipate that players would become so invested in the game’s romantic subplots.
I didn’t think everyone would be so… voracious. Maybe that’s why we have so few romantic paths. We just didn’t realize it would matter that much to players.
In Dispatch, the main character Robert Robertson can develop relationships with two characters — Blonde Blazer and Invisgal. Yet the game was never intended as a romance story: the focus was on irony, humor, and emotional contrast. Shorette admits that his tendency toward romantic undertones surfaces even when he tries to write darker stories, as in The Wolf Among Us or Tales from the Borderlands. “They just sneak in,” he says with a laugh.
Interestingly, Dispatch was originally planned as a live-action project, and many scenes were changed or cut during its long development cycle — including several erotic ones that Shorette now admits he regrets removing.
Yes, we cut a few sex scenes. And honestly, that was a mistake. Maybe one day we’ll show them.
He also noted that many creative ideas had to be dropped due to limited funding.
Anything that looks beautiful costs a lot — especially in games, where every second of animation is incredibly expensive.
Despite this, the studio is already discussing a possible second season of Dispatch. According to Shorette, there are still plenty of ideas and storylines that didn’t make it into the first one. The team hopes the game’s success will give them the opportunity to explore them further — especially since, as other developers noted, Dispatch is on track to hit its three-year sales goal in just three months.
