Graphics Cards Are Set to Get More Expensive Again: Current Prices Face Correction Due to Rising Memory Costs
Arkadiy Andrienko
Graphics card buyers might want to hurry up with their choice. The current price drop could change again over the next year to a year and a half. Analysts note that the steady rise in the cost of GDDR memory will ultimately hit gamers' wallets.
According to available data, the procurement prices for memory chips used in modern graphics cards are showing consistent growth. This trend affects both the now-mainstream GDDR6 and the newer GDDR7. Since memory is one of the key and most expensive components of any graphics board, manufacturers are finding it harder to maintain current price points.
Sources on specialized forums close to component manufacturers suggest that NVIDIA and AMD could revisit the cost of their products as early as the beginning of 2026. A potential price increase is being discussed for the first quarter or even as soon as December 2025. While some Western retailers are still offering graphics cards below recommended prices, the supply chain itself is already feeling the pressure. Manufacturers are confirming increased costs for memory procurement, although no official notifications about price hikes for finished products have been issued yet.
This situation also raises questions about future products. There were previously reports online about the possible delay or even cancellation of the updated GeForce RTX 50 SUPER series. The likely reason cited was precisely the increased production cost due to expensive memory. For manufacturers, releasing products for the professional sector might be more financially attractive in such a situation than focusing on the gaming segment.
All that remains is to monitor the developments in the memory market. This will directly determine whether graphics card manufacturers can maintain current price levels or if consumers should prepare for another round of price increases.
