The comic strip «Superman No. 1», released in 1939, was sold at Heritage Auctions in the United States for $9,120,000. Now it is the most expensive comic book in history, writes The New York Times.

The comic was found by three brothers from California when they were sorting out their late mother's belongings. They knew that there was a comic book collection in the house, but they had never seen them. It turned out that the valuable issue of «Superman» had once been put in a box in the attic and forgotten.

The comic is unique in that it is one of the first editions of «Superman». Actually, the superhero debuted in 1938, but then he was one of the characters in a big anthology. Readers fell in love with Man of Steel, so a year later he had his own series, which began with the release of «Superman No. 1».

The specimen found in California was highly appreciated by experts. They noted the well-preserved pages and the uniqueness of this particular issue.

Superman's popularity has not weakened over the years. The director of the film of the same name, released this year, revealed when fans can expect a sequel.
