New Details Emerge on the Upcoming Meta Quest Headset: Lighter Design and a Price Hike

A fresh batch of rumors concerning the successor to the Meta Quest 3 headset is revealing new details about the company's future project. New data suggests the device may not only undergo a name change but also feature an unconventional design, which will affect both its weight and its cost.
The source of this information is Nima Zeighami, well-known in the virtual reality community, who reports that Meta's engineers are working on reducing the size and weight of the main headset unit. They plan to achieve this by relocating the computing modules and battery to a separate external unit, which should make the device more comfortable to wear during long gaming sessions.
Among the technical improvements mentioned are built-in systems for eye and facial movement tracking, as well as higher-resolution displays. However, the insider clarifies that the screen resolution will still fall short of the flagship Samsung Galaxy XR model.
The most noticeable change for buyers, however, could be the price. Preliminary data indicates the new device could cost around $800, which is significantly more than the current base Quest 3 model that starts at $500. The question of whether controllers will be included in the standard package remains open for now.
Furthermore, the company is reportedly considering a complete departure from the established "Quest" naming convention for the next generation of headsets. Details on what the device will actually be called are still unknown. The official unveiling of the new product is not expected until 2026 at the earliest.
