"We're Not Teasing Anything": CD Projekt Trolled 'Cyberpunk 2077' Fans With Anniversary Post — Then Disappointed Them

On December 10, Cyberpunk 2077 will turn five years old since release. Despite the catastrophic launch that crashed CD Projekt's value by 75%, the game still gathers impressive numbers — today the peak of concurrent players in Steam alone was nearly 44,000 people. For a single-player RPG without live-service elements, this is an astonishing result.

Against the backdrop of the approaching anniversary, fans began hoping for something special from the studio — and on December 1, their hopes got fuel. CD Projekt published a mysterious message on X (formerly Twitter):

SECURE COMMUNICATION CHANNEL ESTABLISHED.
AWAIT PRIORITY TRANSMISSION...
CYBERPUNK 2077 — 10.12
REED, SOLOMON — 12.12
SONG, SO MI — 29.12
END TRANSMISSION.
— CD Projekt

Fans instantly perceived this as a hint at something coming: unexpected update, new content, or even full-fledged DLC.

CD Projekt's social media team tried to cool the fervor, but the wave of speculation didn't stop. Eventually, community director Marcin Momot was forced to intervene directly:

We're not teasing anything. This is our monthly post with character birthdays that we publish every 30 days. This time we also added information about the game's anniversary, but it's not a teaser. Hope this clarified everything.
— Marcin Momot

And indeed, similar posts are published regularly. Here, for example, is November's post with birthdays of Rogue Amendiares, Johnny Silverhand, and Judy Alvarez. And in October, Valerie/Vincent's birthday was celebrated. So, however painful it may be, it seems the alarm was false: CD Projekt is simply publishing traditional posts for character birthdays, which this time coincided with the game's anniversary.

However, optimists still have hope. CD Projekt has more than once deceived expectations, stating that work on Cyberpunk 2077 was finished, then suddenly releasing new updates. Plus, The Game Awards ceremony will take place on December 11 — the day after the game's fifth anniversary. Studio co-director Michał Nowakowski confirmed that The Witcher 4 won't be at the show, but didn't rule out Cyberpunk's appearance.
