Christofer Sundberg, founder of Avalanche Studios and creator of Just Cause, has unveiled the first trailer for the debut title of his new studio, Liquid Swords. The project is called Samson: A Tyndalston Story, and it’s a crime-driven action game built around a brutal limitation: you can’t rob the city endlessly, because the protagonist simply gets tired.

The main character, Samson McCray, is an aging criminal crushed by enormous debt. To survive, he needs cash — fast and in large amounts. You can steal, rob, and take on dangerous jobs. But there’s a catch: Samson has a strictly limited amount of energy each day. Every action drains stamina. If you burn through your strength on one big heist — that’s it for the day. All you can do is sit and watch your debt grow.

And it grows every single day. Meanwhile, the city remembers your crimes — reputation shifts, and consequences pile up. Liquid Swords emphasizes that you can’t replay segments, because the game’s philosophy is “motion is life.” Standing still is losing. The worst thing you can do is nothing.

We made Samson harsh and uncompromising. It’s a story about pressure — the game’s systems constantly push back against the player. The industry is going through a crisis, and Samson is our answer: a focused project built with intent, not excess. This is how we move forward.
