The next game from the authors of SOMA will abandon the usual horror techniques and show a new level of horror

Horror ONTOS from the studio Frictional Games, known for SOMA and the Amnesia series, it will not scare players with traditional methods. The authors have come up with a completely new way to create horror, said creative director Thomas Grip.
"In your more standard horror game, say the first Amnesia, the focus is to have players survive in a scary environment. The intent is to evoke a very primal sense of fear".
In ONTOS, the approach will be more "intelligent". It's about encountering strange, often very disturbing situations in which the player has to find the best way out. If in a typical "Amnesia" style game a gamer encounters a stalking monster, then in ONTOS he will find himself face to face with a man trapped inside a computer made of rats.
This is the goal of the developers — to show what is confusing and makes you ask questions, and not just hide in the shadows in desperation.
There will still be hide-and-seek here, but their number is limited, and they can almost always be circumvented in other ways. The goal is to evoke a deep existential horror that will stay with you long after the game ends.
There won't be any typical puzzles from SOMA either. In the new game, these are more interactive story scenes. The gamer will encounter a problem and then receive a wide range of solutions. The authors do not impose different approaches, but it is still necessary to find one of them. If you're not careful, you can ruin everything.
Let us remind you that the authors do not forget about their most famous project, SOMA. Last year, a new collector's edition was released of the 10th anniversary of the game.
