What New Products Debuted at CES 2026 Despite the Component Shortage

The CES 2026 exhibition in Las Vegas was dominated by the influence of artificial intelligence. However, for the personal computing industry, it will be remembered for something else—a severe shortage and sharp price increase for RAM and SSD storage. Explosive demand from the AI sector meant that almost no new graphics cards, RAM modules, or drives were showcased on the show floor. Nevertheless, manufacturers bet on other categories, introducing a number of notable and innovative products.
The main processor announcement was the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 chips. Positioned as a universal solution, these CPUs combine high energy efficiency, significant performance in AI tasks, and powerful integrated graphics, which Intel claims can compete with entry-level discrete graphics cards.
In the graphics card segment, only one model stood out, but it was an extreme one—the MSI GeForce RTX 5090 Lightning Z. This is a custom solution for overclockers, featuring a unique power delivery system capable of supplying up to 2,500 watts to the GPU in a special mode, paired with a massive liquid cooling system. The product is aimed exclusively at enthusiasts looking to push their hardware to the limit.
Among laptops, experts noted the updated Dell XPS 14 and 16 lineup. The company revised the controversial design choices of recent years, bringing back a full-function row of keys and making the chassis thinner and lighter. These models rely on the new integrated graphics of the aforementioned Intel processors, foregoing discrete GPUs.
MSI also presented a significant update, announcing new generations of gaming laptops. These include the flagship Raider 16 Max with a three-fan cooling system and a stated power of up to 300W, as well as the thinner Stealth 16 based on Panther Lake processors. Updates also affected models in the mid-range (Crosshair) and budget (Cyborg) segments.
For mobile gamers, the ASUS TUF Gaming A14 was of interest, powered by a hybrid AMD processor with a powerful Strix Halo graphics core.
The market crisis also drew attention to component safety. The best power supply unit was named the MSI MPG AI1600TS PCIE5 with GPU Safeguard+ technology, which monitors the load on each pin of the 12V-2x6 connector and can shut down the system to prevent damage.
In the motherboard category, the MSI MEG X870E Unify-X MAX stood out, built for extreme memory overclocking with claimed support for DDR5-10000 speeds and beyond.
Two monitors with opposite purposes made their mark: the gaming 34-inch MSI MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36 with a 360Hz refresh rate and a new subpixel structure, and the giant 52-inch Dell UltraSharp 52 with 6K resolution, designed for professional workflows.
The exhibition was also memorable for its concepts and unconventional devices:
- Lenovo Legion Pro Rollable — a concept gaming laptop with a horizontally expandable OLED screen (from 16 to 24 inches).
- Corsair Galleon 100SD — a mechanical keyboard with a built-in programmable Stream Deck key block.
- Thermaltake Retro Ultra AIO — a liquid cooling system and Retro 260/360 TG case in the style of 80s/90s PCs, but with modern interfaces.
- LEGO Smart Play — a "smart" brick with a built-in chip, sensors, and Bluetooth for interactive play.
CES 2026 demonstrated that the consumer electronics industry is capable of adapting to external challenges. Amid a shortage of key components, innovation shifted towards improving efficiency, safety, design, and creating highly specialized products, opening up new niches for development.
