Paramount appealed to the US Congress to prevent the deal between Netflix and Warner Bros

Paramount has appealed to the US Congress with a statement that the likely purchase of Warner Bros by Netflix may be illegal. This is reported by Deadline.

The letter was sent to the antitrust subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee after the Warner Bros. management rejected Paramount's purchase offer.

Paramount's main argument is that the Hollywood studio's deal with Netflix will further strengthen the service's dominant position in the streaming industry.

The point here, in particular, is that Netflix can get at its disposal the HBO Max service, which is owned by Warner Bros. This will concentrate the production and display of a significant part of the content in one hand.

Previously, large cinema chains had taken a similar position. Representatives of the Cinema United lobby group said that if the deal goes through, it will effectively lead to a monopoly in the industry. However, the ending of the story on Paramount's terms doesn't seem right to them either.
