Modder Turns Red Dead Redemption 2 Into a “Pokémon” With RPG Mechanics

Seven years after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, fans are still finding ways to surprise — this time by literally turning the game into a Pokémon-like RPG. Content creator and former engineer Blurbs has released a mod that reimagines Rockstar’s western as a “creature-catching” role-playing game with battles, creature types, and even equivalents of gym leaders.
In his latest showcase, Blurbs jokes that the mod transforms RDR2 into a Pokémon-style RPG — legally distinct, of course. Members of the Van der Linde gang take on the role of story bosses, while local wildlife becomes collectible creatures that can be captured, leveled up, and used in combat. Turtles, skunks, horses, dogs, and even fish now have their own stats and move sets, with some classified as “legendary” creatures.
The creator admits that the mod still needs refinement and will run alongside streaming software — OBS will be required to launch it. There is no release date yet, but Blurbs plans to make the mod publicly available once the code is properly polished.
The result looks like an absurd yet surprisingly cohesive crossover between two completely different worlds — and yet another reminder that the modding imagination surrounding Red Dead Redemption 2 remains limitless. The game has previously been turned into Mortal Kombat as well.
