Representatives of the Ubisoft trade union demanded the resignation of Yves Guillemot from the post of head of the company. Marc Rutschlé and Chakib Mataoui said that employees are now in a panic because of the betrayal by Ubisoft management.
The problem began to be loudly discussed after Ubisoft began voluntary staff reductions at its head office in Paris. The program involves the dismissal of up to 200 Ubisoft International employees, which is approximately 18% of the department's staff.
All this is part of a major restructuring of the company. Six games were canceled because of her, including the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
Against this background, French trade unions have already announced that they will go on strike from 10 to 12 February. Now, representatives of the Solidaires Informatique organization have stated that Yves Guillemot must leave if the company wants to regain the trust of its employees. Marc Rutschle stressed that he does not consider Guillemot to be Ubisoft's only problem, however, as the head, he is responsible for everything that happens.
"It's his company, at the end of the day. But everyone around him are just yes men".
Chakib Mataoui's reasoning focused on Yves Guillemot's decision to bring his son, Charlie Guillemot, into the leadership of Ubisoft.
"If you just put your white male friends in [those jobs], then you don't promote any diversity or get any new opinions or ideas. We are in a creative job. We need new ideas to come in to [help us] make great new games. But we don't have that. We don't have this mindset for creativity".
Chakib Mataoui stated that, in his opinion, the current management of Ubisoft does not understand social responsibility to employees. Employees, in his opinion, should be able to independently choose the people who will run the company.
Recently, Ubisoft fired the head of the level design department, David Michaud-Cromp. The reason could be the employee's criticism of the new measures being implemented against the background of the company's restructuring.
