Publisher Null Games and developer Mommy's Best Games have released a new trailer and announced the release date for the side‑scrolling action‑platformer ChainStaff. The project will launch on April 8.
The developers describe ChainStaff as “a punishing platforming action game with an unusual spear‑hook, powerful weapon upgrades, and a killer soundtrack.” The story takes place on Earth, which has been overrun by alien mutants. The protagonist is a soldier with an alien parasite living on their head. While exploring levels, players will encounter surviving allies who can be rescued or absorbed to upgrade the player’s abilities. The ending will depend on the choices the player makes.
The game will feature 10 levels with hand‑painted environments, a visual style inspired by 1970s and 1980s rock album covers, heavy metal by Deon Van Heerden (composer for Broforce and Warhammer 40k: Shootas, Blood & Teef), and fights against massive bosses.
ChainStaff will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
