Netflix Reveals First Look at Cinderella in Upcoming Animated Feature Steps

Netflix has shared a new batch of first-look images from its upcoming animated project, Steps, offering fans their first glimpse at the film’s unique take on Cinderella.
Steps offers a fresh twist on the "wicked stepsisters" narrative. The story follows Lilith, who accidentally causes a disaster at the Royal Ball. After inadvertently turning her sister Margo into a frog, Lilith leaves the kingdom vulnerable to a scheming villainess obsessed with the Prince. To set things right, Lilith must team up with Cinderella and a charismatic troll. Together, they embark on a journey to restore order to the fairy-tale world and prove that even "villains" deserve a happily ever after.
The film is directed by Alice Wu and John Ripa, with Amy Poehler, Jane Hartwell, and Kim Lessing serving as producers. Steps is slated for a 2026 release exclusively on Netflix.
This comes alongside news that Disney has also greenlit its own projects focusing on classic side characters, including a live-action film centered on the wicked stepsisters and a new series following Tinker Bell.
